Flow arts is based on prop manipulation, in this case flaming balls of fire skillfully being swung around the body in mesmerizing synchronicity!

What Karina loves about Poi is that whilst being an expressive outlet, it’s also fundamentally based on Mathematics. The intention to create geometric shapes using these props with the foundations relying on Newtons law of motion means the possibility’s are infinite! Each move and trick is like an equation.

The journey of learning is ever evolving, and the process of finding new discoveries of various tricks through playful movement feels incredibly rewarding.

Karina’s passion is extended to her students who have found their own joy in learning flow arts through Karina’s teaching modality. With a love for sharing her wisdom with others, Karina has guided many other performing artists in achieving their aspirations and given them the knowledge and confidence to take their new skills to the stage.

How it all began

Karina’s passion for performing arts started in England at the age of 8, beginning with lining up a row of teddies in her room as an audience and pretending the bed was her stage, to eventually attending weekend theatre school, dance college, hip-hop/Belly dance/contemporary workshops and courses alongside self-taught sub genres of dance, movement & embodiment practices.

At 23, Karina’s hunger for adventure inspired her to pack up a life in Cambridgeshire and fly to Melbourne. A path that led this wild child to discover the world of circus & flow arts.

After 3 years of rigorous training she now specialises in pyrotechnics including the evolved traditional Maori practice of poi twirling, otherwise known as ‘spinning’ within the niche flow arts community that has become family to Karina & many flow artists around the globe. This unique practice is quickly becoming popular amongst alternative crowds, entertainers, circus lovers & is now reaching the public through events and curious audiences who are fascinated by this hypnotic art form.
